Have any of you all been to canine obedience training?
I’m taking my dog tomorrow, and I am wondering what to excpect? Thanks, <3
I have taken one of mine and it was a very good learning experience, more mine than hers. I was taught the best ways in which my dog would be able to understand what I wanted without confusing her with “people think”, how I made it difficult for her to understand me, and how I misinterpreted what she was saying to me. It was unfortunately a very small class with little opportunity to advance socialization skills. Still it was so valuable. I guess that can vary with the instructor.
One of the things that really paid off in the future was learning hand signals. When she was about 13 her hearing started to go, but since we had learned these and kept them up, we were still able to stay on the same page. I admit, we invented a few of our own, like “want a cookie?”
Expect to learn alot and to become humble if it is a good program, and expect to have a much better relationship with your dog.
