Best tricks to train a dog for a pet show?
Okay i might enter my shitzu, teacup yorkie or old english sheepdog in a dog show first wat one then what tricks should i teach them?
I mean like shows w/ the jumps and all in freestyle comp.
Not sure what kind of show you’re talking about here.
If you’re talking about showing, as in confirmation showing, there are no tricks to be preformed. Basically, your dog needs to learn to stand still, be comfortable with being handled and poked by a complete stranger, quiet, collected, and walk nicely on leash. These things can be learned at handling classes usually done by a local AKC training club, and most of them are “drop-in” (meaning you don’t have to sign up-you just, well, drop in) and cost about ten bucks. It might also be a good idea to enroll in a canine good citizen class as well-great for teaching good manners. A bit more expensive though, and usually runs for a number of weeks.
But maybe you’re talking about a fun show type thing? We have one in my area every summer to benefit the local shelter-dogs are entered into competitions for five dollars, and there is one for “best trick” which owners will teach their dog some ‘unique’ or unusual trick to preform, and a panel of three judges watches and judge the dogs to pick what they thought was the best. If that’s the case, you could pretty much teach your dog to do anything-be creative. I’ve seen dogs that know how to wave, bow, dance, and do all sorts of unique tricks and preformances at these silly shoes. The sky’s the limit, just be creative.

Old Dogs, New Tricks
$15.32 Forced to single out what, exactly, makes Barry Louis Polisar a brilliant and hilarious kids' artist, one would be hard-pressed to pick between his absurdist songwriting and his deadpan delivery. On Old Dog, New Tricks, a 1993 album so named, presumably, because of its minor canine angle ("Our Dog Bernard," "I Wanna Be a Dog," and "I've Got a Dog and My Dog's Name Is Cat" are among the 13 tracks),... |
